TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SHOOT Clothing choice is one of the most important decisions you will make for your shoot. Be sure that your wardrobe is colorful but simple so that it does not detract from the focus of the picture - YOU! Generally, black and white do not shoot as well as colors, but that's not to say that you cannot wear these colors. The most important thing is that you feel great in what you choose and it is comfortable enough that you will not feel bound or inhibited by your clothing. I recommend that you keep jewelry to a minimum, and be sure to bring a variety of clothing so that you can get a wide variety of looks. For children, bright colors and clothing that reflects a particular talent that your child excels in are great choices. While we want to avoid things that are too costumey, character shots can be useful to your agent, especially if your child excels at a sport or competition that may be useful to a casting director or client. Avoid busy prints or too much embellishment that will take away from your child's face. For adults, both casual and professional attire should be included in your shot. Be sure that you have a variety of necklines and that all clothing is pressed and clean. Perhaps the most important clothing suggestion is to bring items of clothing that fit you well and that make you feel like a million bucks. If you feel great in a dress or shirt, it's likely that the confidence you feel will be translated in your posture and your eyes, leading to a great photo of you. Stay away from things that are overly revealing unless that is the look you are specifically going for. Keep makeup and hairstyles simple, but flattering. Remember, casting directors want your picture to look the same way that you will coming into an audition. They aren't looking for glamour shots or overly done pictures. They are looking for photos that are flattering and look the way you actually look. If your photos are old or if you've significantly changed your weight, look, or hair style, you will want to re-shoot your headshots. If you color your hair, be sure that your color is fresh and there are no roots showing that will distract from your pictures and require touch-up later. Present yourself in the most flattering light possible! Men, you may want to consider coming to the shoot unshaven and bringing an electric razor. This will allow you to take some rougher, more casual shots before turning our attention to your professional looks. It will give you a variety of looks that you will be able to use in a wide variety of situations. If you can't grow a beard and don't like the look, then simply come clean-shaven. |
